i'm in the clinic setting things up. come by and i'll take a look.
["The clinic" isn't quite open to the public yet, since Mary's only just acquired the business license and location to operate it from, but Juzo is something of a VIP anyway so it's fine. He knows where it is.]
In any case, it’s a short while later that Juzo shoulders the clinic door open, left arm hanging gingerly at his side. He did manage a haphazard job at bandaging it, if only because Rinwell seemed very upset, and he didn’t want to startle passersby on his way over.
[Mary--already dressed in a smock and wearing gloves--doesn't look up from the box she's sifting through right away. She simply gestures toward the examination table.]
Go have a seat, I just need one more thing.
[This is tried and true territory, and Juzo's conscious. That's better than what often ends up happening lately, given who he's been picking fights with back home.
After a moment, she gives a small "aha!" and pulls a mostly-familiar-looking meter from the box. She's still amazed that she managed to find something that she could retrofit for the purpose. Avalon never ceases to amaze her.
That accomplished, she goes over to assess the damage and immediately groans at what she sees. The injuries are as he described, but honestly.]
Care to explain how you ended up with a torn up arm like this?
[ This is old hat by now, Juzo seated patiently on the cot while Mary rummages around for the things she needs. He’ll never understand just how she keeps track of all the crap she has, it looks like a big mess to him.
But that’s the difference in their housekeeping styles - which is to say Juzo enjoys housekeeping and Mary doesn’t. ]
Was out helpin’ folks clean up the Forest of the Felled, and there was some… thing still living there. Like a walking nightmare.
[ Juzo doesn’t spook easily, but that thing was sure something else. He doesn’t know if he’ll ever forget the sight of it, or the sound of its voice in his head. ]
I caught it’s mace with my arm, but better me than the girl it was goin’ after.
[Mary is prepared to lecture him about being careful and keeping his nose out of other people's problems, but then he mentions a girl and the complaints die before she can give them form. Yeah, that sounds about right.
Even so, she sighs heavily as she attaches the monitor and starts inspecting the damage.]
You really can't help but be a big softy, can you?
[The biological damage is obvious, skin and sinew bloody and torn. The meter will tell about the technological damage when it's done running its assessment.]
What was a girl doing out in the Forest of the Felled, anyway? Someone should've warned her that it's dangerous out there.
[ He knows well enough to let Mary and her gadgets do the work, all he has to do is sit there and try not to bleed all over the place. Though his barrel does turn in Mary’s direction, expression pinching in a way that only she’d be able to notice.
He is not a softy! And he’s not going to dignify that accusation with a reply, either. ]
Same thing I was, I assume. She’s a new arrival, name of Rinwell.
[Mary glances at the monitor as she starts the process of cleaning out the injury. Even if he's at much less of a risk of infection than a non-Extended, she still doesn't want anything growing in there.]
So, how long before we're setting up a bed for her here?
[She's kidding. Kind of.]
Either way, I guess it was a good thing you were there. You've got me to patch you up.
